10-Minute Creamy Oatmeal with Sweet Figs and Cinnamon

Creamy Oatmeal With Figs #oatmeal #healthy #highfiber #figs #cinnamon

The secret to creamy oatmeal is an easy one. Making mediocre figs taste great is a little bit trickier. Here’s how to do both in 10 minutes.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (or 2 percent)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar, divided
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 3 fresh figs, halved

Instructions

  1. In a small pot, combine oats, milk, 1/2 cup water 2 teaspoons sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat all the way and let simmer for 5-7 minutes, until thick and creamy.
  2. Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Add figs cut-side-down and cook about 2 minutes, until the cut-side starts to brown. Flip and cook 1 minute more.
  3. Add 1/4 cup water to the skillet with the figs, then sprinkle the remaining 1 teaspoon sugar over the figs. Cook, stirring, until the water has evaporated and the figs are soft, about 2 minutes.
  4. Your oatmeal and figs should be finished cooking at about the same time! You can use whatever other toppings you want, but some things that work especially well are nut butter, chopped pecans, flax seeds, granola, or sunflower seeds.
